New toys to River Kids
River Kids supplies toys to West Lothian's most disadvantaged children, and when the charity recently suffered a break-in, Almond Housing Association wanted to help. This week we were delighted to contribute with a cheque - and a heap of toys!
Local charity River Kids believes that every child has the right to play and rest and their goal is to supply toys to children in need throughout West Lothian.
When the charity recently suffered a break-in, they lost many of the toys that were meant to be this year’s birthday and Christmas gifts for local children. After the break-in many have wanted to help the charity get back on their feet, including Almond Housing Association.
This Tuesday we therefore invited Charity Coordinator, Wendy Simpson, to our office to pick up a selection of brand new toys as well as a cheque for £60, money that had been collected at a recent staff summer lunch.
Simpson, who was delighted to receive the donation, said: ‘These toys will make excellent birthday and Christmas gifts for children, and they will really help us to make a difference.’
River Kids supplies toys to 1700 children every year, around 10 percent of all children living in West Lothian. Simpson estimated that Almond’s toy donation will provide gifts for more than 25 local children.
River Kids was formed in 2005 and run many events during the course of the year in order to help raise much needed funds. To read more about the charity, see http://www.riverkids.org.uk/index.php/home
