Tenants awarded digital diplomas

Tenants awarded digital diplomas

Nine of our tenants recently completed a Computer and Online Basics course and have now received Chartered Institute of IT qualification. Congratulations!

At the end of July Almond Housing Association held a presentation ceremony for nine of our tenants who had completed a ten week long Computer and Online Basics course at West Lothian College.

The free course provided the tenants with useful basic computer skills and offered an introduction to computers and laptops, online safety, web searches, writing documents and sending and receiving emails.

The tenants attending the ceremony were happy to receive their diplomas and said that the course had been a positive experience. A result, many of them are keen to continue learning.

One tenant said: ‘I was not any good on a computer before but now I am much more confident’ Another tenant who had completed the course said: ‘Now I can manage my electricity and gas online and I can use email which is fantastic’.

This is the second course that has been delivered by West Lothian College for Almond tenants to help people who are digitally excluded to access training. The course runs over ten weeks for two hours a week and those who pass the course get a Chartered Institute of IT qualification which they can use to go onto further courses if they wish.

We continue to offer free Computer and Online Basics courses with the next one starting up on the 29 August. If you want to know more about this course, please contact our Community Engagement Officer, Saima Akhtar, on 01506 439291 or email enquiries@almondha.org.uk.

All the tenants who completed the training were also provided with a refurbished pc from local charity Reusing IT so that they were able to continue using the skills learned on the course at home. Robert (pictured) is one of the tenants who received a laptop after completing the course. He signed up to the course in order to obtain basic computer skills, skills he wished to pass on to his wife who could not take part in the course due to health issues.

The ceremony allowed for the group to come together again, enjoy some refreshments and be presented with their certificates from the Chief Executive of Almond Housing Association, George Webster.

Almond Housing Association have been working in partnership with West Lothian College for over a year now to offer Computer and Online Basics Courses for tenants who would like to learn about using computers and getting onto the Internet. We are now pleased to offer an intermediate course for those who have been on the beginners course or have basic computer knowledge and would like to learn more.

For more on the intermediate course, see here.

For more information on our different computer courses, please contact Almond Housing Association’s Community Engagement Officer, Saima Akhtar, on 01506 439291 or email enquiries@almondha.org.uk.
