Zero waste funding supports recycling
A joint partnership between Almond Housing Association and West Lothian Council is supporting residents to recycle their waste.
Two locations in Livingston have benefited from Zero Waste Scotland funding.
Forth Drive and Shiel Walk both had a new communal recycling bin area installed in December as a pilot scheme which, if successful, will be rolled out as part of a wider plan.
These areas were chosen because they were known as fly tipping hotspots but also Almond Housing had the land and space available on which locate them.
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said:
“Many thanks to Almond Housing for their ongoing support and cooperation on this project.
Increasing the opportunities for residents to recycle and leads to less general waste being sent to landfill which boosts our efforts to protect our environment and reduce carbon emissions.”
Housing Officer Lesleyann continued:
“There have been a few teething issues in terms of people using the wrong bins, but as residents get used to them, it will get better. This is the first time recycling bins have operated in this area.”
